Extra Tidbits
I recently found a book “The Northern Light” by A. J. Cronin, published
by Little, Brown and Company, Boston & Toronto, 1958.
It tells the story of a newspaper publisher and his family. Henry Page
inherited the paper from his father. ‘Northern Light’s subscribers were
people who lived in and around Hedleston, a town in the north of England,
who depended on the paper for local, national, and world news and for editorials
that were sound and balanced. Henry Page felt a great responsibility to
his subscribers and strove to give them the best newspaper he could publish.
What happened to him and his family is what Dr. Cronin tells in this absorbing
story. It also includes a description of the Hedleston
Coat of Arms.
